Wolves endured a relatively quiet January transfer window, at least until the final day where there appeared to be a mass exodus in the form of departures.
Nuno Santo only brought in one senior player as Olympiacos winger Daniel Podence joined the club in a £16.9m deal whilst the only other incomings were the addition of Ecuadorian frontman Leonardo Campana, who will initially play for the U23s, and Luke Matheson from Rochdale.
Meanwhile, Ryan Bennett, Dion Sanderson and Jordan Graham all left Molineux on loan.
It has since been revealed that the Portuguese boss made a huge call on potential signings, which has left supporters in a heated debate.
According to Tim Spiers of The Athletic, sporting director Kevin Thelwell and chief scout John Marshall suggested that the club should sign RB Salzburg forward Hwang Hee-chan and then-Dinamo Zagreb playmaker Dani Olmo.
But instead, Nuno opted for Podence and Campana.
This is how fans have been reacting…
Some sections of Molineux were left fuming with such a decision. One fan called the move to sign Podence over Olmo an “absolute joke” whilst another was left baffled to why anyone would reject the chance to clinch the young Spaniard.
A further fan went as far as saying that the wrong person left the club this week – in reference to Thelwell’s imminent departure to New York Red Bulls.
However, others put their faith in their Portuguese chief…
“In Nuno we trust” was the key recurring statement from an array of positive responses. One even gave props to the sporting director for putting those names forward, and at the end of the day, it’s on the boss to decide who fits his system best.
Another supporter joked that there was a lack of trust now after the club’s summer signings, Patrick Cutrone and Jesus Vallejo, turned out to be two flops who have already left the west Midlands.
And then there were a few who offered further insight…
Only time will tell if Nuno made the correct call last month.
