However, the turnaround began early in the second half with Ayew scoring twice from close range before the hour-mark, with Angelo Ogbonna netting the decisive winner 10 minutes later to send Slaven Bilic’s men through to the quarter-finals.
West Ham supporters were quick to have their say on the 27-year-old’s performance via social media, and while some described it as “magnificent”, others say he “needs to start Saturday” when the Irons face Crystal Palace in a crucial bottom-of-the-table clash.
