Ajax have denied an agreement is in place with Liverpool for Christian Eriksen, keeping alive Spurs’ hope of signing the playmaker.
The Danish international is a target for both Spurs chief Andre Villas-Boas and Reds boss Brendan Rodgers. The 21-year-old looks certain to leave Amsterdam this summer after indicating he would not sign a new contract extension.
Ajax do not want his present deal to run out so they are likely to be open to offers, but they have denied a deal is in place with Liverpool already.
Yahoo Sports quoted Press spokeswoman Eefje Schepenkring saying, “We will send out a press release when there is an agreement. Also if there is only a deal between Ajax and the club. So at this time there is no agreement between Ajax and Liverpool.
“Whether we negotiate or not, we do not comment on transfer rumours.
Right now Christian Eriksen is focused on very important games we have to play at the end of the season.”
Eriksen has made it known in the past that he wants to play Champions League football and Spurs are far more likely to be able to offer that than Liverpool next season.
