Sky Sports News reporter Paul Gilmour has offered an update on Tottenham’s transfer business before Friday’s deadline, suggesting “there is a good chance” there won’t be any further incomings before the January window slams shut.
What did he say?
Well, Spurs have added Gedson Fernandes and Steven Bergwijn to their squad as well as making Giovani Lo Celso’s move permanent already this month, and the only other expected deal perhaps was that of a new striker given the official club line is that Harry Kane won’t return to training until April.
However, they look to have failed in their bid to sign Krzysztof Piatek, who was described as “the one Tottenham want” by the club’s Football London correspondent Alasdair Gold, with the Poland international instead set for Hertha Berlin.

Gilmour told Sky Sports: “We’re told there is a good chance the club will not do further business this month which indicates a deal to get a striker over the line is proving tough.
“However, we’re also told that the recruitment team continues to work tirelessly exploring all options as long as the window remains open…so never rule out late drama!”
Interesting end to the window?
It could yet be.
We all know how quickly things can change at this stage of the transfer window, with reports only emerging on Tuesday that Tottenham are now keen on Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud.
The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?
While Spurs may not see an opportunity that works for them right now, that could easily change before 11pm on Friday.
Fans of the north London outfit may not be impressed if they don’t bring in a back-up for Kane, but perhaps Jose Mourinho feels that with Bergwijn, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min in their ranks, they will be just about fine to get through the rest of the campaign.
Currently lying six points adrift of Champions League qualification in the Premier League standings however, it would have to be seen as a risk to go without an out-and-out centre-forward for the next few months.
