It has been some season for Liverpool.
The Reds currently lead the Premier League table by 22 points – that is the biggest margin in the division’s history – and are still unbeaten in the top flight. In fact, they have won 24 of their 25 games so far this term. They really have been the best team in the league, and by some distance.
There have been a number of players who have impressed for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Trent Alexander-Arnold has been the side’s creative force from right-back with 10 assists in the league, whilst Sadio Mane has managed 11 goals and eight assists as well. Others, such as Virgil van Dijk and Alisson have ensured that Liverpool have the best defence so far, with them having shipped just 15 times.

However, there is one man who deserves to be win the PFA Player of the Year award, given to the season’s best performer, above everyone else, and that is Jordan Henderson. The England international has often been slammed by fans in the past – including his own supporters – but this term, he has really come to the fore and proven himself to be a vital cog of the side.
His performances have made him a part of this conversation, for a start. He has a WhoScored rating of 7.19 in the Premier League this term, managing three goals and four assists along the way. In a number of offensive and defensive aspects, he has drastically improved from the previous campaign – he has risen to the occasion from that point of view as Klopp and co go in search of a first league title in 30 years.
His contribution, though, goes a lot further than just statistics. His influence as captain should not be underestimated. Watch any Liverpool game this term, and you will see how much the 29-year-old encourages and commands his teammates. Those are skills that only a few players possess.
Also, his versatility deserves credit. Fabinho’s injury in November could have caused Liverpool problems, but Henderson dropped back in to the more defensive role and excelled. The Reds kept seven clean sheets in the nine games he played there, which came during a tough December period.
