Plenty of footballers decide to go into management when they retire from the professional game, but not all of them make the cut.
At the moment there is a generation of Premier League stars who are trying their hand at top-level management, including Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.
Gerrard has been in charge of Rangers since the summer, while his former Chelsea rival is manager of Derby County.
Liverpool legend Gerrard got his first taste of coaching while working with the Reds’ academy.
After spending a year in the youth ranks, the ex-England captain took on his first major managerial job at Ibrox.
The 38-year-old has impressed in Glasgow, not only because of the results on the pitch but because of his management style.
This week during a press conference with young player Jordan Rossiter, Gerrard showed that he pulls no punches.
A reporter directed a question at Rossiter, asking him for his thoughts on Gerrard’s claims that he will have no issue bringing in new players if his current stars underperform.
Just as Rossiter started to deliver his answer, the Rangers boss interjected and insisted that it was a “warning”.
The conduct of Gerrard earned him plenty of praise from Liverpool fans, many of whom want their former captain to one day replace current boss Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
