West Brom have been dealt a blow in their quest to re-sign Okay Yokuslu this summer, with Crystal Palace emerging as contenders to snap him up.
The Lowdown: Yokuslu linked with West Brom
The Baggies may have been relegated from the Premier League last season, but a number of players still performed well.
Yokuslu was one of those, arriving on loan from Celta Vigo in the January transfer window and making 15 league starts, excelling at the heart of the midfield.
West Brom have been linked with bringing the 27-year-old back to the club this summer, in order to aid their Championship promotion push.
The Latest: Palace keen on signing midfielder
According to Mundo Deportivo [via Sport Witness], however, Palace have entered the race to sign Yokuslu, with new manager Patrick Vieira eyeing up a loan move for the Turkey international.
Celta Vigo are keen on selling the midfielder for good, but as of yet, it is claimed that no permanent bids have been made for his services.
The Verdict: Blow for Baggies
This is a potentially damaging update from a Baggies perspective, considering Palace are still in the Premier League and therefore likely representing a more appealing proposition.
It will be hard for Valerien Ismael to entice Yokuslu to the Hawthorns if he has offers from more successful clubs, meaning they may have to look elsewhere.
If West Brom did manage to get their man, however, it could feel like a significant piece of business, considering the Celta man’s performances in the top-flight last season.
