da leao: Zambia international Stoppila Sunzu has revealed that he is close to agreeing a deal to join Reading, according to reports from Sky Sports.
da bet7: The 23-year-old has been linked with a switch to the Premier League for some time, with Arsenal and the Royals believed to be the interested parties.
Speculation surrounding a move to the Emirates Stadium has cooled of late, leaving Brian McDermott in pole position for his signature.
Although he is currently on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, he trained with Reading last week, impressing enough to be offered a deal.
Sunzu, who plays his football with Congolese outfit TP Mazembe, claims that a move is close to being completed:
“Everything went well,” he said of his time with the Premier League club.
“I’m happy because I passed the assessment and now it’s up to TP Mazembe and Reading to finalise the deal.
“When they do that, I will sign the contract right here.”
A central-defender is believed to be a top target for Reading, following a tough start to Premier League life.
Sunzu appears to fit the bill, with his powerful, athletic frame and admirable reading of the game making him a fearsome defensive option.
After a string of impressive displays, he has been labelled as one of the rising stars of African football.
