da betsul： Manchester City look ominously good in the early days of the new campaign, with the Etihad Stadium outfit having won their first two games to power to the top of the Premier League table immediately.

Given the strong start on Eastlands, rumblings of a managerial change have died down of late, with Manuel Pellegrini having the wealthy club’s owners’ backing for the time being.
Pellegrini signed a new contract ahead of the 2015-16 campaign – which in reality prolongs his stay but is no guarantee of longevity.
The experienced Chilean’s job was a point of contention at the end of a trophy-less campaign in 2014-15, with rumblings that the former Malaga and Real Madrid trainer could be kicked to the curb in favour of a bigger name.
In world football, there are few bigger managerial names than Pep Guardiola, who has been consistently linked with the Manchester club since his momentous days of leading boyhood club Barcelona to 14 trophies in the space of four glorious years.
Now at Bayern Munich, back-to-back Bundesliga titles have been achieved, but the proud Catalan has failed to replicate the same level of success in Bavaria.
As such, with City obvious suitors and having the means to tempt just about anyone to the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola was once more linked with a move to the Citizens over the summer.
The manager’s role at the club will clearly be dependant on the levels of success on the pitch this season, with every chance that Pellegrini can lead his team to the title – hence nullifying the need for a new man.
But, with very little room for error in the eyes of an ambitious owner that has invested heavily over recent years, should City not take top spot this season or get to the latter stages of the Champions League, the Chilean’s role would surely be in threat once more.
Despite the fact that City may well want Guardiola in the long run, don’t expect the unique Catalan coach to end up on Eastlands any time soon.
There is every chance that he will leave Bayern at the end of the current campaign when his contract expires, but it seems unlikely that he will be Pellegrini’s successor.
Unlike most of the figures involved in the game in the modern day, Guardiola is not motivated by money and instead takes pride in the projects that he commits himself to on the pitch.
This La Masia graduate has been instilled with the values and virtues of the famous Catalan institution and as such has a real sense of prestige and history in his outlook on football.
He has stated in the past that he has managed the biggest club in Spain, now followed by the biggest in England.
Even if City win the league this season, it is unlikely that the young manager will see them as the biggest club in England given the team’s history.
As such, the unique Guardiola is one of only a handful of people in the world game that would resist the overtures of the newly rich City or Chelsea, with it being more likely that he would move to one of the traditional heavyweights such as Manchester United or Liverpool.
There is every chance that Guardiola will end up in English football in the not-too-distant future, but it would be very unlike him to go against his ideals and take on a new project at City.
