da apostebet: For Newcastle to bounce back straight away will not be as easy as previous teams have proved.
da brwin: Numerous clubs have been relegated and then floundered in the Championship, only to stagnate and stay there for years. Others have gone one worse and dropped again into the third and fourth tiers of English football.
The Magpies will miss out on the enormous financial benefit of being a part of the footballing elite, but will be compensated by the parachute payments of around £70m, which is spread over three years.
However, whilst that is a financial leg-up for Newcastle and should be enough to enable them to re-join the Premier League, Rafa Benitez will be hard at work trying to keep some of his more talented players whilst bringing in those with the grit and determination to help them out.
Here are five fighters for Rafa to consider…
Lewis Cook
With nearly 100 games at Championship level under his belt, it looks as though Leeds will lose another youngster this year after Sam Byram left in January.
Cook is Leeds’ young player of the year and Newcastle were watching him last year. Newcastle need proven second-tier players with the potential to improve if they go up, so he fits the bill.
Premier League clubs might be more appealing to Cook, but would he rather play every game or sit on the bench and wait for a chance? A decent shout for Rafa, if the new boss at Elland Road would let him go.
Jeff Hendrick
The battling midfielder had been noticeable last season with his never-say-die style of play for Derby County.
However, after the Euro’s in France, everyone has woken up to the fact that Hendrick is a far better player than we had imagined.
Newcastle would be perfect for the 24-year-old Republic of Ireland player. Nigel Pearson may not want to let such an asset leave, but his imposing midfield play is just what The Magpies will need in a division Hendrick understands.
Ross McCormack
Rafa needs to re-build and needs a proven Championship striker.
McCormack could be that player, but Benitez will face competition from Aston Villa and Norwich City. McCormack, 29, has a £12million buyout clause in his Fulham contract and on the back of recruiting Dwight Gayle, another formidable striker would spearhead the Magpies’ return.
The striker, a Scotland international, was the subject of a failed bid from the Magpies’ North East rivals Middlesbrough in January. He scored 23 goals last season as Fulham escaped relegation to League One, and was the Championship’s top scorer in his final season at Leeds in the 2013-14 campaign, netting 28 times.
Patrick Bamford
Doesn’t everyone sign Bamford on loan at some point? Now it’s Newcastle’s turn. The young striker was someone that the Magpies enquired about last season. After a nightmare period at Crystal Palace, he went onto an equally agonising time at Carrow Road with Norwich.
Chelsea won’t play him this year, but seem reluctant to sell, so it’s another loan move. If Newcastle can get their man, they will hope that his spell at St James’ Park will be as eventful as they were at Middlesbrough.
Christopher Samba
It will be difficult to attract certain players to the second tier of English football, but free agents with experience and on short-term contracts could please both parties, before Benitez swaps them for younger players.
Step forward, Samba. At 32, the Congo international has spent the last three seasons in Russia with Dynamo Moscow and with his contract having expired, he needs a new club.
The defender is just what Newcastle need. After years with Blackburn, he knows the English game, he is a commanding presence, powerful and an imposing centre-back whose game is really suited to the roughness of Championship football.
