The Belgium defender has remained coy on his future as he enters the final year of his deal and Spurs may eye a sale in January, rather than activating an extension in his deal that would also make a release clause of just £25m active.
Swapping Alderweireld for Bailly could, therefore, be a masterstroke for Pochettino as the young defender would thrive under his guidance.
